I’m often asked how it was that I came up with the idea of starting VerifiedSupporter.com as a way in which to support our veterans. Well, truthfully, I just happen to be a big believer in the charitable nature of Americans. We’re a people who care and who help. Yes, I know that may sound a little naïve and overly optimistic, but I have seen firsthand the way our country comes together in time of crisis.
And make no mistake, the situation of veterans in this country is no less than a crisis. The VA estimates that 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. I happen to be a disabled vet. By the grace of G od I’m not homeless, but I know of the struggles that Vets face. But, I also know that we can help, that we can change the way things are, and that we can come together as a country to take better care of the people who have risked their lives to take care of us.
VerifiedSupporter.com, in case you don’t know, uses proceeds from the sale of the right to use the Verified Veteran Supporter logo to help not only vets, but a range of charities and organizations. I’m proud to be able to look around and see the logo popping up everywhere. And every time I see it, I know that it represents one more person, or business, that wants to show the world they proudly support the causes that continue to help make our country great, the causes that continue to confirm my feelings about the generosity of the American people.
Of course, as Americans, we’re never ready to simply throw our money anywhere. We need to know that our generosity is going to do some real good. This is where VerifiedSupporter.com helps the giver as well as the receiver. Our causes are all well-known, legitimate, long-standing charitable organizations. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here, after all. We’re just trying to take the safety nets that are already in place, and make them a little stronger. So far, we’ve been pretty successful in doing just that.
Will we be able to continue successfully? One’s answer to that depends no doubt on one’s level of optimism.
